New Origins (Brown) from gandia blasco - gan

The surfaces of the rugs in the ‘New Origins’ collection resemble miniature landscapes, through which their creator, the textile artist Aline de Laforcade, sought to explore the aesthetic, sensory and artisanal possibilities of jute and wool within a single work. The idea was to explore the heritage of these two materials, which have been so widespread throughout the Mediterranean region throughout history, without, however, falling into a mere reproduction of the past. The challenge lay in establishing a continuity with traditional forms of expression, to demonstrate how these can be transformed over time through a contemporary interpretation.

The combination of two such dissimilar fibres as wool and jute creates a constant dialogue between the design structure of the ‘New Origins’ carpets and the softness of their texture. The rugs are crafted using hand-weaving techniques on multiple levels to achieve reliefs and three-dimensional volume by varying the height of the wool pile as it is knotted by hand onto the flat jute base. Whilst the rather earthy, warm and cosy character of the jute lends the pieces depth through its colour nuances, the wool provides a soft and enveloping texture of great richness.

In the version offered here, the rug features brown elements.
