Amiko from Baleri Italia
Amiko is a coat stand with umbrella holder designed by Alessandro Mendini in 1988 and reissued by Baleri Italia in 2026. Made of powder-coated steel tubing and rod, it is available in different colours. It features an umbrella tray and water collection basin.
Described by Enrico Baleri as “the true pioneer, a creator of ideas and styles, of signs, even before objects and projects,” Alessandro Mendini worked on the Poesie d’anticamera (Hallway poetry) collection in 1988. With the Amiko coat rack, reissued by Baleri Italia in 2026, Mendini transports the bourgeois tradition of the late 19th century into Neomodernity, creating a design element that renews, through ultra-modern materials, the small daily ritual of leaving and returning home.
In Mendini’s words: “today, the ‘metal tube’ has two opposing meanings: on the one hand, it commands respect for its unique, powerful heroic past; on the other hand, it has become a ‘normal’ semi-finished product, a common material. Working on these two aspects—memory and banality—this object was born: simple in form and craftsmanship, ironically a bit classic, discreetly neo-modern.”
Baleri Italia
Baleri Italia (aka cerruti baleri) presents objects that distinguish every kind of room with their quality and discretion in a positive and often ironic way. Furniture like seat cushions tato and tatino or armchair mama and chaise longue flipt are modern classics. The label baleri italia was awarded with a variety of design awards.
