Raul Barbieri was born in Milan in 1946. In 1972 he began studying architecture at the Polytechnic in Milan. During his studies he met Giorgio Marianelli, who worked in the design studio Ollivetti - led by Ettore Sottsass at that time. Together they founded an architecture and design studio in Milan. Raul Barbieri works in his own design studio in Milan since 1989. He became well known especially thanks to his project of terrace houses which were presented at the Compasso d’Oro as well as on the ADI Design exposition in London. His unstoppable research made him work together with diverse design schools such as the Ecole Supérieure de la Création Industrielle “Les Ateliers” in Paris and the Instituto Europeo Di Design in Milan. His interest in the “World of living” enabled the cooperation with manufacturers such as Acerbics International, Alivar Gallery, CiDue, Magis, Ycami, Rexite, Tronconi or Zucchetti. Besides the Good Design Award, the Form Design Prize and the Design Plus, Barbieri was honoured with numerous other international design awards.
